Meet Mike! 👋

Hey, I’m Mike. I consider myself a nano reef enthusiast who loves building unique, eye-catching reef tanks. I’m passionate about pushing the limits of small systems, dialing in clean setups, and creating thriving miniature ecosystems that stand out. For me, it’s all about precision, creativity, and turning compact spaces into living works of art.

Mike's Story

I began fishkeeping at the age of thirteen, breeding African cichlids before transitioning into reef aquariums just a few years later. What started as a hobby quickly became a lifelong passion.

In 2016, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, which required me to take a brief three-year pause from reefkeeping. Even during that time, I found myself thinking about and planning for the day I would set up another aquarium. Following my transition back into civilian life, nano reefkeeping reignited that passion in a powerful way.

Since then, I have expanded my involvement in the hobby by creating content on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, connecting with thousands of fellow reef enthusiasts around the world. Reefkeeping is something I can discuss endlessly, especially with a cup of coffee in hand. The relationships and community built through this shared interest have been just as rewarding as the aquariums themselves.

I have also had the honor of being featured twice in Reef Hobbyist Magazine, an accomplishment I never anticipated. I was simply sharing what I love and what I’ve learned along the way.

In my experience, these small glass ecosystems are not as difficult to maintain as they are often portrayed. Success in reefkeeping comes down to consistency, accountability, and a genuine commitment to the miniature world you create. With persistence and care, thriving reef systems are absolutely achievable.

About Mike's setup

Each of Mike's systems is built with a clear purpose in mind, shaped by years of experience and plenty of trial and error along the way.

The SPS-dominant system is pushed a bit further — designed for precision, stability, and tight control. It’s a setup where everything matters, and even small changes can have a big impact. Dialed in, it thrives. But it also keeps you sharp, because high-demand systems don’t leave much room for mistakes.

On the other side, the LPS and soft coral tanks take a more forgiving approach. They’re built around steady growth, resilience, and overall health — systems that reward consistency without punishing every small slip.

The anemone setup sits somewhere in between, focused on balance, thoughtful aquascaping, and carefully chosen tank mates. It’s less about pushing limits, and more about creating harmony within the system.

Every setup is different by design, but they’re all driven by the same mindset — understanding the system, respecting its balance, and building something that works with nature, not against it.
